IT’S close to a year since they last gave us a smashing hit. The track had a thumping kwaito baseline which mesmerised revellers at night clubs, even kombi drivers played it full blast and it became an anthem to the fun loving youth of Bulawayo.
The track Umcimbi by Stiff fronted by Bulawayo-born Diliza, was the track which brought the group Stiff to fame. So much anticipation that fans are still eager to find out what happened to the album which was supposed to be released in June last year. Their lead singer was once quoted by our sister publication, Chronicle saying the album was on its way and fans should expect it by end of June.
“We’re busy putting final touches to the album which has 10 tracks. The album is inspired by the Gqom sound. There’s a single we are working on with Dj Nko of Gobisiqolo fame titled Awe Ma which will be out anytime soon,” said Diliza.
Last year in December, Kalawa Jazmee spokesperson, Scotch said the album’s release was postponed to this year because the management wanted to put more songs and decided to release it in February this year. Trying to stand by their word, Diliza in February this year posted teasers of the songs that were supposed to be on their album and went on to tell his Facebook fans that the album was done and coming out in a few weeks.

At the launch of Proper Files last year around September, DJ Oskido the owner of Kalawa Jazmee where Professor has been signed for the past couple of years, once said Professor had started his record label at the right time and urged his label to work closely with Kalawa.
“This is perfect timing and I’m very proud of Professor. Let’s work together to benefit the industry,” said Oskido.
It’s still to be seen whether the album promised to be coming soon now nearing a full year will ever see the light of the day.
Questioned when the album of Stiff will be released, Scotch said he was going to find out at Universal Studios who are responsible for the release of the album.
“Now I’m getting at the Universal Studios and then we can talk after two hours, maybe I will know what is happening because they are the ones responsible for the release of albums,” he said.
One can ask a very simple question, how soon is soon? Or maybe the release of the album which was due last year was just a pipe dream. It is just a matter of time for the Stiff fans to hear the fresh sounds from the group and their wait maybe should be addressed sooner rather than later.
