The countdown to Sting 2014 contest scheduled for this Saturday at the City Sports Centre has begun with some of the artistes billed to perform promising a great night out.
The show that pits Zim dancehall acts Seh Calaz and Soul Jah Love as the main event will also see other acts going one-on-one in a battle of the microphone. Whoever spits the most punchlines will win the title.
Seh Calaz threw the gauntlet down with the claim that he fears no one on stage and promise to “skin” Soul Jah Love alive.
“I for one will not fear anyone whether lyrically or vocally I’m the biggest challenge. I’m turning City Sports Centre into an abattoir and I need the support from my fans and all those who don’t believe in me to come and witness a clueless man being trounced once and for all,” he said.
Seh Calaz also warned fans against throwing empty cans on stage not only at Sting 2014 but at every other show.
“I also urge fans to desist from throwing cans and missiles during performances not just at Sting but also at other shows. Clashing with Jah Love is just a lyrical confrontation not physical so Zimbabweans should come in their numbers and support their favourite artistes,” Seh Calaz said.
Seh Calaz who is the lead face of the “Mabhanditi” crew is known for flawless delivery and does not fool around whenever he takes to stage.
He can change style and voice on the same riddim several times and still maintain the rhythm.
Both him and Soul Jah Love hail from Mbare and are perceived as arch rivals in Zim dancehall and they have always traded barbs in song.
Fresh from winning a double at the recently held Zimbabwe Music Awards, Soul Jah Love did not mince his words saying he was ready to defend his territory.
“So don’t worry yourself, Conquering Shumba ready fi di ting, da real dancehall king come and notice when we sing (at) Sting 2014 big up courtesy of Boss Chipaz, ah taafulaz ,matsaga toakanda toyaz anenge ana Seh Calaz. No to violence, no to can throwing. Regai ndipedze munhu wangu zvakanaka,” he said in an online promo video.
Soul Jah Love known for his flawless chants where he spits punchline after punchline says he will not be taking any prisoners at the contest come November 8.
Organised by Chipaz Promotions, Sting 2014 will be held under the banner “Say No To Violence.”
The two-arch rivals will go tune-for-tune which means that they will both appear on stage at the same time and battle it out.
Between them, there is a rich discography of “diss” songs which are likely to send the crowd into a frenzy during the face-off.
However, the two artistes have maintained that there is no bad blood between them as the “beef” only exists on stage.
There is also a host other artistes who will settle scores at the Sting. Lady Squanda will go head-to-head with Lady B while Badman will square-off with Platinum Prince.
Quonfuzed will battle Terminator, Jiggaz versus Ricky Fire while Bounty Lisa will face off X Patriot.
There is also battle of the sounds systems whereby Mighty Ducks will compete against Fyah Links as Black Spider take on Red Fox Family.
