He said the rehearsal hours had to be cut by more than half because they failed to raise funds to meet the budget.
“Stitsha is behind schedule by three weeks. We had to cut down the hours from eight a day to three because we could not meet the budget of providing food and transport for the cast. In the initial plan we should have been rehearsing the whole day, but because we could not secure enough sponsorship, that is why we might not meet the 5 August deadline,” said Dlodlo.
He said they would be working with the 5 August deadline and towards the end of the month they would be in a better position to know whether to move the date or not.
“We are working with the 5 August date and three weeks into July we shall then know where we stand. The reality on the ground is that it could be difficult or near impossible to meet the deadline,” said Dlodlo.
He said Fitness for Living, Chicken Inn and a Harare-based restaurant Fish Monger were among those who chipped in with sponsorship.
Dlodlo said on Sunday the cast would be taught Indian traditional dances to add more spice to the play.
“We want to cater for all the people and we have roped in an Indian dance instructor. The person will work with the cast for four days and will begin on Sunday from 10am,” said Dlodlo.
He said last month they were working on dance and script and this month they were working on music.
“Last month they were working with Matesu Dube in choreography and Memory Kumbota in script. This month they are working with Eldon Zulu in music,” said Dlodlo.
Meanwhile, one of the directors of Stitsha, Lewis Ndlovu, tied the knot last week in a small ceremony with his childhood sweetheart Matalenta Banda.
Stitsha is a play about a woman’s struggle to be recognised and heard when she wants to produce a play. The lead role will be played by Nomathamsanqa Mkhwananzi.
The drama Stitsha was aired on ZBCtv and the late Beater Mangethe played the lead role then.
