Stolen wedding ring returned 13 years later

silver band on the side of the road.

The ring, with “eternally yours” engraved on its inside, was stolen in June 1998 after thieves broke into an unnamed couple’s home in Lithgow, northwest of Sydney, Australia.
In June this year, the trucker found the ring when he stopped on the Great Western Highway road near Katoomba, about 40km south of the couple’s house.

Realising the ring must have great sentimental value, he handed the ring to New South Wales Police.
Officers then searched through old records and managed to track down its rightful owner using details of the distinctive inscription.

They handed it to the man’s wife and she presented it to him on the 13th anniversary of when it was stolen.
“To say he and his wife were surprised and delighted is the understatement of the century,” a police spokesman said.
“They were both incredibly happy. It’s fair to say there were tears of joy. The husband had never really gotten over the loss of the ring. It is obviously very, very important to them both.” – Herald Sun.
