A STORM is brewing in the Professor Welshman Ncube-led MDC in Matabeleland South Province following attempts by some party officials to include the party’s secretary-general, Mrs Priscilla Misihairambwi-Mushonga in the list of women’s quota under proportional representation.
Angry party officials told Chronicle yesterday that Mrs Misihairambwi-Mushonga had been put on top of the list of six women in the province under the Umzingwane Constituency.

“The attempts to include Mrs Misihairambwi-Mushonga in the list did not go down well with some party members. They are against the move because Mrs Misihairambwi-Mushonga does not originate from this province. We are totally against that,’’ said the party official.

The other five women in the list are Sibekithemba Njani, Elizabeth Ndlovu, Lorraine Sibanda, Mpumelelo Nkomo and Judith Ncube.
The officials said the party’s aspiring MP for Gwanda North Mr Paul Themba Nyathi nominated Mrs Misihairambwi-Mushonga.

“The party claims to support devolution of  power but now this whole issue is the opposite of  what we believe in. Party members are really not happy and they want her name to be removed from the list.

“It would not be surprising to hear the name announced by the Nomination Court on Friday as the party’s heavy weights are in support of the nonsensical idea,” said another official.

“If the Nomination Court announces her name, we will certainly reject it, there is no way it can be approved.”
Contacted for comment, the party’s member of the executive, Mr Ngqabutho Dube said he did not see the list as the nominations were done at provincial level.

“I cannot say much but what I know is that the list has not been finalised,’’ said Mr Dube.
Mrs Misihairambwi-Mushonga could not reached for comment.
