Storm destroys clinics

destroyed schools in areas around the expansive Gonarezhou National Park. The storm also ravaged vast tracts of sorghum and maize crops in the area leaving impoverished villagers facing famine.

Among the clinics that had their roofs swept away or partly destroyed by the hailstorm are Malipati, Chikombedzi, Chambuta, Chilonga, Damarakanaka, Old Boli and several other health service centres in the remote southern Chikombedzi.

Chiredzi East legislator Cde Abrahama Sithole yesterday painted a sorry picture of the situation in the Limpopo Valley, saying besides destroying clinics the hailstorm had also ravaged crops and schools.

“The situation in the Limpopo Valley as we speak is very dire because at least 10 clinics in the area were destroyed. A number of schools were also destroyed by the hailstorm. We appeal to Government and humanitarian organisations to quickly move into the area to avert a complete humanitarian crisis,’’ said Cde Sithole.
