Strategic ambiguity created me: Tshabangu

CITIZENS’ Coalition for Change (CCC) interim secretary-general, Senator Sengezo Tshabangu has said he is a creation of the strategic ambiguity plan that has been blamed for the chaos and confusion that rocked the party soon after last year’s harmonised elections.

Sen Tshabangu said it is the same strategic ambiguity plan that established Mr Nelson Chamisa as the party’s presidential candidate including other candidates who participated in last year’s polls, which Zanu- PF won resoundingly.

In an interview with Skyz Metro last week, acting party president Professor Welshman Ncube said the strategic ambiguity plan was solely to blame for the party’s pathetic showing at the elections and the subsequent confusion caused by recalls that were orchestrated by Sen Tshabangu who was clothed in the interim secretary general of the party jacket.

Prof Ncube said they never voted for any interim secretary general, a position which Sen Tshabangu agrees with.

Sen Tshabangu said it is true that he was not part of the leadership that was elected at the Gweru congress in 2019.

“It is correct that I was not part of the leadership that was elected at the Gweru Congress in 2019. It is also correct that I was created by the same strategy of ambiguity that established Nelson Chamisa as CCC presidential candidate and all other candidates who participated in the last general elections under the banner of CCC,” he said.

Sen Tshabangu concurred with Prof Ncube that the strategic ambiguity was a spectacular failure.

“It was a failure on many fronts because there were no checks and balances. Decisions were made by one person who believed that God speaks to him alone on matters affecting this country,” he said.

After his defeat and subsequent recalls, Mr Chamisa decided to dump the opposition party, further inflaming the already volatile situation.

Sen Tshabangu said he had no regrets for embarking on the massive recalls, saying they were done to correct Mr Chamisa’s wrongs.

He said the ongoing restructuring exercise being undertaken by the National Executive Committee (NEC) and led by Prof Ncube was the correct route as it will ultimately lead to the party holding its elective congress.

Sen Tshabangu described his relationship with Prof Ncube as cordial just like the rest of the NEC members.

“I have high regards for Prof Ncube as a leader of our organisation. His dedication to the mission and his commitment to our nation is inspiring. Congress is unavoidable in any democratic society and I will not hesitate to support him in this manner,” said Sen Tshabangu.

He said Prof Ncube recognises his and other members’ contributions in stabilising the organisation.

Sen Tshabangu said people across the country were so proud of what he did to rescue and restore the party to its founding principles and values.
