Batting coach Grant, bowling coach Streak and fitness trainer Chivandire will not be part of the travelling party that will spend at least a month on the Caribbean Islands.
ZC media and public affairs manager, Shingai Ruhwaya, said they were forced to cut down on the technical team as there were difficulties of communication in camp.
The changes, said Ruhwaya, will allow for better strategy formulation.
“After consulting with the players and the head coach on the effectiveness of the current coaching structure, which has a head coach, an assistant coach and two specialists, a decision was made to streamline the structure to allow for better strategy formulation and communication in camp.
“While a specialist can be engaged for preparations and specialist training throughout the season, the head coach is to have full and sole charge of the national team during tours.
“The same will apply for the fitness trainer whose primary objective is to ensure that players are fit before they go for a tour.
“The physiotherapist and assistant coach will then play the role of maintenance while on tour,” said Ruhwaya.
Zimbabwe are set to take on the current Twenty20 champions in a tour that also features three ODIs, two Twenty20s and two Tests, and is expected to start in two weeks’ time.
Zimbabwe got into camp two days ago in preparation for the tour.
The tour will serve as Butcher’s last assignment in charge of Zimbabwe but he believes he will part ways with Zimbabwe Cricket on a good note.
“We haven’t played an ODI in more than a year either and that doesn’t help,” said the Englishman.
“We know it will be tough but we have to stay positive and give a better account of ourselves from our last trip.”
It was at the beginning of last year that Zimbabwe were last involved in a full tour after playing New Zealand where they returned home without a victory in any format of the game — including their heaviest Test loss.
Mid-last year, Zimbabwe managed to win an unoffical T20 tri-series by beating South Africa in the final but they went on to lose their opening group games at the World T20.
However, Zimbabwe have put these defeats behind them and are focussing on a new challenge with assistant coach, Steve Mangongo, saying they are looking forward to the tour of the West Indies.
“We are all looking forward to it. This is an important tour, the first complete tour in almost 10 years where we have to play two Tests, three ODIs and two Twenty20 matches,” Mangongo told The Herald.
“We have been fortunate enough that our guys have been playing lots of cricket of late. They are all looking fit and well-oiled.
“Everyone is keen on this tour, probably with the realisation that the last one turned out to be a woeful disaster.”
