POLICE in Bulawayo have identified six places in the City Centre where they are going to place surveillance cameras to curb crime.
Sixth Avenue, Haefelis Complex and parts of Jason Moyo streets are some of the identified places.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said plans to put the surveillance cameras was now at an advanced stage.
“We strategically chose these places because there is a lot of activity taking place there and that is where most of the crimes are being recorded,” said Insp Ncube.
He said they were working with different stakeholders to make this a success.
Insp Ncube said they had done a pre-test during ZITF and the results showed how helpful surveillance cameras are.
“During the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, we put cameras in a number of places and l am happy to say crime rates were reduced and we managed to catch a number of people using the cameras,” said Insp Ncube.@flora_sibanda
