A Gweru man who lived on the city’s streets with his family was found dead on Monday after being crushed by a stone while asleep on a shop veranda.
Midlands Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the alleged murder of Forget Nsingo.
He said the incident occurred at a veranda of a commercial building along 8th Street in Gweru town.
“Nsingo, whose age is unknown, had been living in the streets of Gweru with his wife Rufaro Savanhu, 22, and two children aged 4 and 3,” said Insp Mahoko
He said it is alleged that Nsingo quarrelled with a friend, only identified as Terrence, while drinking beer earlier that night.
“He later joined his family on the veranda, where he was found dead the next morning,” said Insp Mahoko.
He said police investigations revealed that a blood-stained stone weighing approximately five kilogrammes was found near Nsingo’s head, with the left side of his head severely deformed.
“The wife woke up and discovered her husband lying dead with the huge stone on his head before she made a report to the police,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said the police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
