Strive MasiYIwa seventh richest in Africa

FORBES has ranked Zimbabwean telecoms mogul, Strive Masiyiwa, as the seventh richest man in Africa.

“There are six billionaires in Egypt, five in South Africa, three in Nigeria, two in Morocco and one each in Zimbabwe, Algeria and Tanzania.”

Masiyiwa was ranked seventh with a fortune of US$1,9 billion.

The business tycoon launched mobile phone network, Econet Wireless Zimbabwe in 1998 and it is reported that Masiyiwa owns over 50 percent of the publicly listed Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, which is part of his larger Econet Group.

He also owns half of Liquid Telecom, which provides fibre optic and satellite services to telecom firms across Africa.

In addition, Masiyiwa has other assets, which include stakes in mobile phone networks and power distribution firms in Africa.

He also founded the Higherlife Foundation, which supports orphaned and poor children in Zimbabwe.

Aliko Dangote continues to hold on to the title of Africa’s richest person.

“With a net worth of $13.6 billion, Aliko Dangote continues to hold on to the title of the world’s richest black person.”

Johann Rupert is ranked as the second richest person in Africa with a fortune of US$10.7 billion followed y Nicky Oppenheimer ($8,5 billion), Nassa Sawiris ($7,4 billion), Issad Rebrab ($4,6 billion) and CAF boss, Patrice Motsepe, who is worth US$3,2 billion.
