A 77-year-old man told his 42-year-old ex-wife to grow up and play her role as a mother.
Francis Nyandoro was responding to his ex-wife, Zvisinei Diringa, who accused him of being irresponsible by failing to take care of his children.
Zvisinei told magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini that she wanted an upward maintenance variation to $400 000 for the upkeep of their two children.
However, magistrate Dhlamini ordered Francis to pay $150 000.
“Our child collapses now and again, and I need money for her medicals. He never paid anything until he was served with the upward variation papers. That’s when he ran to pay fees.
“He doesn’t respond to my messages, and I would like the court to make things clear to him before we go our separate ways,” she said.
Nyandoro denied the allegations and told the court that he pays extra whenever he gets any. He said he had also been paying fees for his kids.
“I received donations from my children, and I have another family I am taking care of, but I do send money and pay fees for both my children.
“She is 42 and shouldn’t expect me to do everything for her. It’s time for her to grow up and play her role as a mother,” he said.
