STUDENT and youth leader, Joyline Tafadzwa Madombwe, has been nominated for the Global Leadership & Influence category at the upcoming GoGetters’ Excellence Awards set for South Africa on May 23.
The awards, which will be held in Sandton, celebrate trailblazers across the continent who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to community development and visionary leadership.
For Madombwe, who recently concluded her term as National SRC president and Council Member of the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU), the nomination recognises a leadership journey rooted in the philosophy of service over self.
“I am deeply honored and humbled,” said the 23-year-old.
“My journey began as a Junior Member of Parliament, where I first learned that leadership is a responsibility to speak for others.
“Whether in the boardroom or the community, I see myself as a vessel for change, shaped by a community that believed in me early on,” she said.
Madombwe’s tenure at the helm of ZOU’s student body was defined by tangible results.
She broke glass ceilings as the first female to transition from Miss ZOU to National SRC president. “My fulfilment comes from knowing that the work we did will help someone I may never meet.
“Seeing a student continue their education because of a policy we helped create is my greatest reward.”
Beyond governance, Madombwe has balanced a professional career as a brand ambassador with grassroots activism.
She launched and participated in the Chikurubi Initiative to support the reintegration of inmates and has been a vocal advocate for road safety.
“Where you are today is not where you will always be. Your season of preparation is sacred.
“Stay humble and keep serving where you are,” she added.
