Students dive into virtual trading in Capital Markets Quiz

Business Reporter

Forty secondary and high schools are set to participate in a simulated virtual trading competition over the next two months as a key element of the Capital Markets – High Schools Quiz Competition.

The initiative, hosted in partnership with the Financial Securities Exchange and C-Trade, will utilise the C-Trade platform for the virtual trading simulation.

The virtual trading simulation competition will run parallel to the quiz competition.

The trading simulation platform mirrors real-life trading on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange, but with virtual money.

Through interaction with real market data and the execution of simulated trade on the platform, students will gain first-hand experience in navigating the intricacies of securities trading and portfolio management.

This innovative educational approach effectively connects theoretical knowledge with practical application.

The hands-on engagement will not only allow students to develop technical expertise in capital markets but also hone crucial thinking, data interpretation, and decision-making skills that are applicable across various professional domains.

Mr Patrick Muzondo, a director under the Financial Markets Indaba, which is partnering with Zimpapers to host the competition, highlighted the importance of this initiative.

“By engaging with actual market data and executing simulated trades, students gain first-hand experience in navigating the complexities of securities trading and portfolio management. This innovative learning approach bridges the gap between theory and practice.”

In an increasingly dynamic world where artificial intelligence is reshaping industries, early financial literacy is more crucial than ever,” said Mr Muzondo.

As AI continues to revolutionise financial services, equipping young minds with this foundational knowledge ensures that they are prepared for the global opportunities of tomorrow.
