Solusi University students will next year launch a film on reproductive health titled “Graduate Alive”. Students and Youths Working on reproductive Health Action Team (SAYWHAT) at Solusi University said they had come up with their own ideas on how to uphold our culture and national identity through their own experiences. From this, the students have decided to make a film to teach their counterparts the lessons from past experiences.

“Trends tell us that the young people of today mostly adhere to media messages, television to be more precise, hence we have seen that as students we have a role to play to help our fellow students,” said Solusi University SAYWHAT president, Tawanda Hillary Mauye.

The movie is mainly targeted at students in tertiary institutions and aims at raising awareness to students on the dangers of HIV and AIDS. Mauye said the movie idea was conceived after a realisation that students were the most vulnerable groups because of the economic hardships bedevilling the nation.

“We want to conscientise students on the need to live a healthy life during and after they graduate from college. Students should take precautionary measures and desist from engaging in immoral activities that expose them to the deadly virus.

“We urge tertiary students to be faithful to one partner and encourage them to be a generation of HIV-free academics. We also encourage students to get tested and know their status as a way of living a healthy, positive life,” said Mauye. The setting of the film will be student campuses in Zimbabwe. It will reflect and dig into their social life pertaining to social, academic, spiritual and economic welfare till they graduate.

The film will also show positive and negative issues that arise during their stay on campus and their daily routines. Solusi University is appealing to all tertiary institutions in Zimbabwe to be part of this initiative by providing assistance for the setting of the film, actors, media information and production services.
