STUDENTS WIN, SWITCH FOCUS TO CAPS UNITED

AFTER condemning Triangle to their SEVENTH defeat, in their opening 10 games of the Castle Lager Premiership, Herentals have already switched their attention to their next assignment against CAPS United.

The Students beat Triangle 2-1 win at Rufaro yesterday.

Clemence Gobvu added to Blessing Phiri’s first-half strike with a fine header in the 75th minute.

Tyler Mugoniwa reduced the deficit at the death with a goal-of-the-season contender from range.

Blessing Majarira missed two clear chances that could have given the Students the comprehensive victory which they deserved.

Second-half substitute Tawanda Chatiluka only lasted for three minutes as he was brutally challenged with a crude tackle from Phiri, who survived what seemed to be a red-card offense.

The win took the Students to 11th place on the standings as they await a boardroom decision that is likely to see them getting three more points.

This is after Kwekwe United failed to turn up for the game they were supposed to host the Students last month.

Herentals coach Paul Benza showered his men with praises for a good show.

“It was a game that I think the boys really came to the party to give us the much-needed maximum points,” said Benza.

“We’re targeting a top-four finish at the end of the season and these are the games we should win at all cost.

“I just hope the boys will carry on with this momentum in our next fixture against CAPS United this weekend, we’re playing a giant, and we’re not reading much about their current situation.”

Triangle coach Genesis Mangombe felt the pieces are slowly coming together.

He hinted at his wish to add a few players during the mid-season break.

They are now rooted at the bottom of the league table with five points.

“We need to work on our mental fitness to try and get better results because the position we’re in is not good for the team,” said Mangombe.

“I think our concentration levels dropped after the restart. It’s a game that I think we could have done better, but I think we’ll improve in our next fixtures.

“We also need to add a few players to our team in some positions that I feel can be improved.”
