HIGHLANDERS FC bona fide members moved a motion to amend the constitution and have a section that will lead to suspension of membership for anyone who takes legal action against the club.Presenting his report at Sunday’s annual general meeting at the Highlanders club house, board chairman Mgcini Nkolomi raised his concern about the negative publicity that Bosso got as a result of court cases.

“Your board bemoans the culture of members suing the club leading to negative publicity in the media. May I appeal to you our dear members to follow the club’s internal appeal platform for all aggrieved members,” he said.

Nkolomi added: “Your board will in future with the consensus of its members propose that a code of conduct be formulated to take into account among other issues that if a member takes legal action against the club the said member would automatically disqualify himself or herself from the club. I also take this opportunity to confirm that the board, through its relevant committee, is taking a re-look at the club constitution to cater for changes that arise from time to time.”

Ex-Highlanders chairman Themba Ndlela took legal action against the club, seeking to recover funds he allegedly advanced to the club during his tenure.

The matter has taken long to resolve as the club is challenging Ndlela to submit proof that he loaned the club money. Nkolomi’s board believes that it is only through the code of conduct that they can bring sanity to their membership.

“It is only through taking bold measures of discipline that your board can lay claim of delivering on their overarching goal, the vision of the club that states and I quote, ‘To be a dynamic world class sports institution for centuries to come.’

“Members who always feel otherwise there is always a platform such as the AGM to express themselves candidly instead of dragging the good name of the club into the mud,” Nkolomi said.

Apart from coming up with a code of conduct, the board resolved in line with the Fifa Club Licensing System to hire a chief executive officer or general manager who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the club.

Nkolomi said they are hunting for strategic partners who are going to bankroll the chief executive officer’s salary.
“Certainly it is acknowledged that the running of an institution of our nature cannot be left in the hands of part time personnel as is currently the case both at board and executive level.

“Consequently efforts will continue to be made to engage strategic partners to bankroll the welfare of the general manager and office staff,” Nkolomi said.
