The musician said he would preach the gospel of peace and tranquility currently prevailing in the country to dispel rumours about violence in the country. Dendera music fans in the UK are assured of a treat after being starved of their favourite genre for close to three years when none of the Chimbetus toured the UK.
The late Simon Chimbetu, one of the pioneers of the genre used to tour the UK every year. His son Sulumani is excited as he is going to revive the legacy with his fans in the Diaspora.
“Our fans in the Diaspora should expect great Dendera fireworks,” said Sulu. Sulumani’s visit to the UK comes at a time when Zimbabwe celebrated its 31 years of independence, which was attained on April 18, 1980.
In his farewell show, Sulumani managed to share the stage with the rhumba icon, Enegy Mutodi of the “Simbi Yamudhara” fame. Revellers had a memorable gig after the two artistes put up a polished act.
The Orchestra Dendera Kings last toured the UK in 2006 when Allan Chimbetu was at the helm of the group.
The tour will rejuvenate the group that has managed to keep intact since the acrimonious split from Allan.
Regionally, Sulumani has toured Mozambique, Botswana and Malawi. Prior to the UK tour, Sulumani was in South Africa last month where he performed in Pretoria and Johannesburg.
The musician is riding high with his latest album Non-Stop that carries the hit track Kwedu, which features Oliver Mtukudzi.
