SULUMAN Chimbetu repaid Alick Macheso for his kindness when he shared the stage with his sons, Esau and Tatenda, at Ruwa Leisure Centre last weekend.

It all started with the late Simon “Chopper” Chimbetu, who blessed Macheso during a show at Aquatic Complex, when he was starting his solo career.

The show featured Progress Chipfumo and Andy Brown.

After Chopper’s death in 2005, Macheso gave Allan and Sulu exposure and support as curtain raisers at his shows.

And, last weekend, it was Sulu’s turn to give back to Macheso after sharing the stage with Esau and Tatenda during a gig in Ruwa.

Tatenda imitated his father as he greeted fans upon being introduced onto the stage.

The two opened their slot with the song Amai VaRubhi, sending the crowd wild.

Tatenda hailed Sulu for giving him a slot.

“I would like to thank Sulu, our elder brother who made sure we perform here,” he said.

The Orchestra Dendera Kings then appeared on stage singing Judas’ Iscariot before they belted out Nyuchi.

Tatenda and Esau surprised Sulu as they joined him  and sang the track ‘Kuya Mamera’ together.

“These are my brothers and I would like to thank Macheso for teaching them the ropes.

“Let’s do this forever because united we stand but divided we fall.

“We must never be divided by anything for us to make it in life.

“We have our children coming after us too, you must keep supporting them,” said Sulu.

Tedious Muchapedza Matsito Junior also jumped onto the stage where he played his latest father’s popular songs.

Leisure Centre boss, Jonathan Makodza, saluted Macheso and Chopper for their kindness.

“Zimbabwe must salute Simon Chimbetu and Alick Macheso and all who support music for nurturing this second generation of stars.

“Sulu is now popular in music because Macheso assisted him.

“Sulu is now providing guidance to Macheso’s sons – Esau and Tatenda and shows that Macheso’s brand is here to stay,” he said.
