Sulu, Samkange dazzle fans

Allan, who had to warm the stage, did not disappoint as gave a flawless act, that was warmly received by hordes of fans who had driven about 35km from Harare and its environs to see the musicians perform and partake in the celebrations.

What captivated the audience most was probably Allan’s selection of songs, his energetic dances and a well-choreographed performance, to the delight of the capacity crowd, who had not seen him perform in a long time.

Sulu, who is currently riding high, took to the stage at around midnight amid ululation and whistling from his fans, immediately got down to business.

The award-winning star greeted his fans with his traditional line “Heya Heya” and “Kana Munhu Anetsa” and the thrilled crowd responded with the “Batai Munhu” chant.

He kicked off the show with several hit songs from his current album “Syllabus”.
“Before we start partying, let me hasten to thank our brother Bola for making this event a success,” he said.

The gesture was accompanied with a gift of a big champagne bottle from Bola.
After that it was hit after hit and probably the highlight of the show was when he dedicated a happy birthday song to President Mugabe, “Happy Birthday Gushungo”.

His current hit song “Sean Timba” has proved that it is indeed a social ditty that receives an overwhelming response wherever it is played, whether at a party, social function or in the pub.

It was the same response that it received when he belted the song following requests from his fans.
The song was ably completed by the footwork of Philip Dzivike, Shacky Phiri and Francis Slomo who gyrated throughout the song.

Earlier in the night, Samkange, who was donning a black designer jean outfit with golden stripes, didn’t disappoint when she took to the stage and played a number of songs from her wide selection.

She had the crowd up and dancing when she churned a number of renditions from the late James Chimombe, Simon Chimbetu and Andy Brown. She left the stage with the crowd’s favourite “Kumagumo Erudo”.
