Sulu to grace Hifa again

Bagging the slot at the festival, which runs from April 30 to May 5, will be a crowning achievement from the young heir to the dendera legacy.

In a busy year that has seen him becoming arguably the most sought-after artiste on the local music scene, Sulu has entrenched himself in the hearts and minds of his legion of followers, but has also garnered industry recognition as evidence byn his bagging three Nama awards earlier this year.

The young scion of Zimbabwean music legend Simon Chimbetu has proved that being given the mantle of continuing the legacy of his departed father has not overwhelmed him but, on the contrary, has seen him take the brand further.

So high has his stock risen that the country’s tourism authorities roped him into activities to promote the industry.
He represented the Zimbabwean artistic community at the Carnival International de Victoria in Seychelles earlier this year.

This will be Sulu’s second opportunity to perform at the premier multi-national arts showcase in the country, having performed at Hifa 2010.
This time around, he will offer Hifa audiences all the classics as well as his chart-topping releases. Above all, he will definitely have the audiences swaying to the infectious “Batai Munhu” beat.

Owing to the fact that many families are not able to enjoy his live performances which are usually held at night and in recognition to his broad spectrum appeal, Hifa organisers have said they have scheduled him on perhaps the busiest family day at Hifa, the, Coca-Cola Day on Saturday May 4, in a family-friendly slot at 2.30pm.
Organisers, however, could not confirm if the real-life “Sean Timba” will grace the performance.
