Even though he made a brave attempt to perform, he had to leave the stage early and his uncle, Allan Chimbetu, continued with the show.
And on Saturday afternoon, he still had the bandage when he toured King George VI Primary School where he mixed and mingled with the pupils.
His publicity man, Joel Nyamungoma, said Sulu as he is known by his fans, slipped while taking a shower in the Seychelles.
“He sustained a bruise on his left eye after he slipped in the shower. It wasn’t anything serious,” Nyamungoma said.
But others think the injury was more to do with his complex private life since he seemed fine when he left the Seychelles.
Accompanied by his group — the Orchestra Dendera Kings — Sulu delivered a speech to pupils at King George VI Primary School urging them to do well in their studies.
Later some of his group members led by Franco “Slomo” Dhaka performed and hosted lunch for the children.
“It is a way of giving back to the community and since I am in Bulawayo this weekend I thought it was wise to spend time with the children.
“I know they only listen to our music and yet they have never met us. This was an opportunity for us to be with them,” Sulu said.
Perseverance Hadebe, the school head, hailed Sulu for spending his time with the children saying it was the first time that an artiste had visited the school.
“We appreciate the efforts by Sulu and his band to come and inspire the youngsters. This is actually the first time that an artiste has visited the school.
“He also treated the children to lunch and that is encouraging,” she said.
