FOUNDER of local rhumba group, BV Labien, Cuthbert “King Vevela” Kasirori, who is now Super Labien group leader, looks set to break a year-long sabbatical by launching a new album, Ngodo Ngodo this weekend. Life has not been a stroll in the park for the splinter group following stiff competition from other genres particularly Zim-dancehall and sungura.
King Vevela (39), unceremoniously dumped the BV Labien ship in 2013, together with six other members to form another rhumba outfit, Super Labien. Speaking from his base in Harare, the talented singer, said the group would officially launch the album and present the new songs at popular entertainment centre, Club Mandisa tomorrow (Saturday).
Previous albums which include Double Impact, Kumba hatiende, Vakorinde, Malabel Chete and Catch One fared fairly well on the market although most of them lacked extensive marketing.
Ngodo Ngodo carries potential hits such as Amai, Mamero, Malabel Chete (remix) and an instrumental for Malabel Chete.
“We will dish out the songs to our beloved fans in Mutare for the first time. We are glad to be back there and we would like to promise our fans nothing, but fireworks and undiluted fun. We are ready for the show. We promise to put up a memorable act,” said the leader of the 11-member outfit that comprises a blend of Congolese and Zimbabweans.
He added that he would also launch a new dance, Selfie, which was originally carved by veteran Congolese singer Koffi Olomide.
