TADIWA Mugwambi was outstanding as he inspired St George’s College A football team to win the annual Hammer and Tongues Under-20 tournament on Saturday.
The hosts edged Prince Edward 2-1 in the tightly-contested final.
Mugwabi won the Golden Boot and was voted the MVP of the tournament. To get to the finals, St George’s A beat Falcon College 1-0 and then turned on the style to thrash Kutama College 3-0 to book their place in the final.
Peterhouse edged St Ignatius Zambia in the quarter-finals by winning 1-0 before winning by a similar scoreline in the semi-finals where they beat St John’s College.
Kutama took the bronze medal after beating St John’s College 1-0.
In the plate final, Marondera High were the winners after they defeated Watershed College 1-0.
Marondera High had beaten Silveira Mission of Masvingo 1-0 in the semi-finals of the plate battles while Watershed negotiated their way past Lomagundi College with a 1-0 win.
Dejon Mavengere of Peterhouse was voted the best goalkeeper.
Kelvin Machadho, also of Peterhouse, was voted the best defender while Tamupiwamakomborero Mautsa of St George’s College took the best midfielder gong.
