REVOLUTIONARY singer Chief Hwenje reckons superb choreography helped make him the people’s favourite at the grand Uhuru musical gala in Murambinda.

He also saluted fellow artists for fine performances, which made turned the gala into such a box office hit.

Backed by seasoned session musicians like pianist  Lyton Ngolomi, and popular dancer Mama Bhinzi, among others, Chief Hwenje was a star act.

“It may appear easy when we easily win the hearts of many on stage but I can safely say that it takes a lot of rehearsals and hard work behind the scenes.

“I always make sure that I leave an impression, wherever I perform, because it is my job to keep people entertained.

“I love my stage and I always want to do my best when performing at such high-profile events, which is why you see me going out of my way.”

He added:

“Those who closely followed the just-ended Uhuru bash will agree with me that all the artists came well prepared.

“The artists knew very well that it was a big occasion where they had to make an impression and honour villagers who came to the event on foot while others used ox-drawn carts to grace the event.

“It was more than a gala but a celebration of our 44th Uhuru in style.”

DJ Fantan and his Chillspot clique lived up to their promise as they unleashed Ras Caleb to the delirious crowd.

Jah Master was also the toast of the night as he belted out singalong tracks.

Sungura lovers had a memorable night as Mark Ngwazi, Simpon Mutambi, Bio Mudimba and Tendai Dembo played their part.

The sound and lighting were superb.
