Supersport attachment proposal goes up in smoke

THE proposed attachment to Supersport United for Warriors coaches has gone up in smoke because of two friendly matches against Zambia and Tanzania.

After it was felt coach Calisto Pasuwa would not make it, a new arrangement to send Warriors assistant coach Saul Chaminuka and Under-20 coach Mandla Mpofu was agreed.

Initially Chaminuka was expected to leave his Matsapha United base last week before the attachment was pushed to this week. However, Zifa requested him to join the Warriors camp by Wednesday evening.

He left Swaziland for Harare on Monday to join the national team as they will be playing against Tanzania. The MTN National First Division League side are likely to be without Chaminuka in January as Zimbabwe will be playing in the Afcon 2017 in Gabon.

Matsapha United chief executive officer (CEO) Celucolo a?Dinoa? Dlamini said they allowed their coach to attend to national duty without a doubt as they wanted to see him grow. Chaminuka joined Matsapha United a month ago and he is assistant to Mathews a?Chaka Chakaa? Mandlazi.

a?We are proud to have a coach of his calibre. He is respected in his home country, Zimbabwe, and the experience he will get from his national team will also boost our performance. He will come back and share that experience with us,a? Dlamini said.

A request letter from the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZFA) stated that the coach would be released after November 14 when the Fifa week ends.

Matsapha United are at the summit of the league table with 25 points while Malanti Chiefs are second with 19 points.

They are yet to lose a game after nine games in the National First Division.

The man behind the attachment, Dingani Maduna said it was highly unlikely that a new date would be set.

a?It is highly unlikely that the attachment will go ahead for reasons best known to the coaches. There is not much commitment towards the whole attachment,a? said Maduna.

Maduna had brokered the proposal after questions on capacity had come to the fore.
