see Mtukudzi sharing the stage with his protégé Munya Mataruse one of the many talents to emerge from his Pakare Paye Arts Centre.
Mtukudzi, or simply Tuku to his fans, is well known for his well polished acts and the Chinhoyi is no exception. It has been long since Tuku performed in Chinhoyi and he must have been missing his fans following his overseas tour last month.
The “Watitsvata” hitmaker, who says his first songs was his birth cry, brings a lot of experience and style whenever he performs. Tuku, arguably Zimbabwe’s most internationally acclaimed musician, has travelled the world delighting audiences – young and old – with his remarkable songs for over three decades.
He is one of the most prolific and successful Zimbabwean musicians with a legion of local and international fans.
His latest and 61st album titled “Sarawoga” was released on his 60th birthday last year.
Music lovers can expect classic hits from his extensive catalogue as well as popular “Chiringa”.
The Chinhoyi gig is one of the many shows which Tuku will stage before he goes on yet another tour of the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Holland and Japan.
Tuku’s distinctive voice, catchy katekwe rhythms and nuanced storytelling have made him very popular with Zimbabwean audiences over his 30-year career. Through his music, Tuku has also taken on the role of social spokesperson against domestic violence, HIV and Aids as well as child abuse.
As for the supporting act Mataruse has shared the stage with Tuku on a number of occasions and is getting better with each outing. With one album up his sleeves, Mataruse knows how to spice his act by performing yesteryear classics by the legends who include Leonard Dembo, System Tazvida, John Chibadura and others.
Show promoter Taka Mashonganyika said the gig will provide Chinhoyi fans another chance to enjoy quality music this weekend.
“We urge fans to come early and avoid a last-minute rush at the gates. Tickets will be available on the day of the show,” he said.
