Supreme Court dismisses appeal in Victoria Falls Ward 1 by election

THE Supreme Court has upheld a High Court ruling disqualifying Mr Ephias Mambume, an aspiring independent candidate, from contesting in the Ward 1 by-election for Victoria Falls Municipality.

In a statement, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, Chief Elections Officer, Mr. Utloile Silaigwana said Mambume had appealed the earlier decision, which found him ineligible due to outstanding debts owed to the local authority.

“The ruling effectively means that Tonderai Mutasa of ZANU PF remains the duly elected councillor for the ward, as per the High Court’s judgment on November 18, 2024.

The dismissal of Mambume’s appeal also confirms that there will be no by-election in Victoria Falls Ward 1 on November 30, 2024,” said Mr Silaigwana..

He said however, the by-elections for Ward 38 of Makoni Rural District Council and Ward 10 of Bindura Rural District Council will proceed as planned on the same date.
