A MAN, who is suspected of participating in a number of armed robberies across Harare, has been arrested.

He was hauled to court yesterday for illegal possession of a gun and ten bullets.

Naison Karenzo, 36, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

He was remanded in custody to May 16.

The court heard that Karenzo, of Mufakose, was arrested for unlawful entry on April 30 in the same neighbourhood.

Upon being searched by the police, he was found in possession of a Smith and Wesson revolver and ten bullets. He, however, had no firearm certificate authorising him to be in possession of the firearm, leading to his arrest.

Karenzo told the court yesterday that he was a security guard at Mazowe Mine and that explains why he was in possession of that gun.

State prosecutor Zororo Nkomo opposed bail and told the court that the firearm was taken to ballistics for examination to establish if it was used in robberies.
