Suspects complain against Epworth cops

Magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei yesterday said there were too many complaints by suspects against officers at Epworth Police Station.
Three suspects who came to court yesterday on different records complained that they were assaulted while being forced to admit to the charges, denied food and over detained at Epworth Police Station.

One of the suspects who is facing a rape charge told the court that he spent nine days in police custody before he was brought to court.
Mr Ndirowei told the State to take the complaints seriously before he ordered an investigation.
“Everyday I am hearing complaints from accused persons against police officers at Epworth Police Station. There must be something wrong at that station. The State must not make lip service, I expect you to do thorough investigations and bring feedback to this court,” he said.
Prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Chakurira promised to investigate the matter.

Meanwhile, a suspected armed robber allegedly stabbed to death a Glenview woman before robbing her of a mobile phone, Nokia 1616.
Sinsamala Chinsi (23) allegedly stabbed Jean Chindinda twice on the chest and left wrist using a kitchen knife.
Mr Ndirowei remanded him in custody to March 27 and advised him to apply for bail at the High court due to the seriousness of his offence.

He is being charged with murder.
The court heard that on January 31 around 4pm, in a maize field near Glen View Satellite Clinic, Chinsi approached Chindinda who was walking in the company of Zodwa Mwandira.
Chinsi suddenly appeared from behind and grabbed Chindinda. He dragged her into the maize field while Mwandira fled and ran to the police station screaming for help.

It is the State’s case that Chinsi stabbed Chindinda on the chest and on the left wrist before robbing her of a cellphone which was in a pouch around her neck.
After the robbery Chinsi fled from the scene leaving the knife stuck in Chindinda’s wrist.
When Mwandira came back with the police, they found Chandinda lying in a pool of blood.

She was taken to Budiriro Police station, where she was pronounced dead by the paramedics who had been called to take her to hospital.
Prosecutor Mr Tungamirai Chakurira alleges that Chinsi sold the mobile phone to Godfrey Mufugu who later sold it to Sarudzai Munemo, where the police recovered it.
A post mortem was carried out and it revealed that Chindinda had died from stab wounds.

In a similar incident two Epworth men, Duncan Vanyika (25) and Phenias Manyuchi (28) also appeared before the same court on allegations of fatally assaulting their colleague at a night club.
They allegedly attacked the victim with empty beer bottles killing him instantly.
