VETERAN saxophonist, Phillip Svosve, is on cloud nine as he begins his midweek slot tonight at Habhana Lounge tonight.

After convincing management at the venue last Saturday, the 73-year-old was given the prime Thursday slot.

Famed for playing both his own compositions and copyrights, his Jabavu Drive jazz outfit has been churning out young crooners.

The jazz legend said:

“I feel honoured and grateful that we now have a place where we are playing jazz on Thursdays.

“Our fans have been appealing to us to find a place where they can come and enjoy.

“We are happy that we now have a place where we can meet and exchange notes as the jazz community.”

 He added:

“We are going to give our best since this means a lot to us as the granddaddies of jazz.

“We are glad that management at Habhana Lounge has come to our rescue since we now have a place where we can play our music on a weekly basis.

“We are grateful that good times are set to roll and we are calling old and new fans to come and have some fun with us.”

Jabavu Drive holds regular shows in Harare’s upmarket venues.

Habhana Lounge general manager, Wanisayi “Mahwindo” Mutandwa, confirmed the deal.

“Jabavu Drive Jazz Band now plays on Thursdays.

“We have decided to honour all our jazz crooners by giving them a slot at Habhana Lounge following their exploits in the game.

“We are also going to host other jazz stars like Feli Nandi, Victor Kunonga, Prudence Katomeni, Travellers Band and Mokoomba.

“We are going to do it for all our mature and executive crowd who miss jazz music,” she said.
