ZIMBABWEAN golfer, Robson Chinhoi won the Tuskers Malt Lager Uganda Open Golf Championship 2022 which was held at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Uganda on Saturday.
The Zimbabwe international who is based at Royal Harare Golf Club led throughout the whole four days of the prestigious tournament to claim his second victory in two months after a win in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) last month.

In the first round of the tournament, Chinhoi recorded a 3- under 69 and followed that with a 2- under 70 and a 6-under 66 on the third round of the showpiece. On the final round, which was the final day, he had level par to tally up a score of 11-under par in 72 holes.
Chinhoi finished with a total of 277 gross points to win his second tournament in the Uganda pro open after the heroics in 2020 during the championship played at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.
In second place was Kenyan international, Simon Mburu Ngige who finished with 287 gross points and -1 under par and was followed by Ronald Rugumayo from Uganda who also had the same figures as Ngige. The pair shared second place.
In fourth position there was Greg Snow from Kenya who had +2 over par and 290 gross total.
Chinhoi was not the only Zimbabwean at the event, Nyasha Muyambo finished on position five with +3 over par and a gross total of 291 and was tied with Samuel Chege Njoroge from Kenya. Ignatius Mketekete, another Zimbabwean finished on position 13 with +7 over par and 295 gross total. Nevy Milazi finished tied in position 31 with +20 over par and 308 gross total.
In his post tournament remarks after he had jumped into Lake Victoria in celebration, Chinhoi said the win was “a sweet victory” and is excited to have won again in Uganda as he is also looking forward to another tournament.
“I am happy to have won yet again in Uganda, coming from the victory in Lubumbashi, DR Congo. This year, we have had limited tournaments but I look forward to the upcoming Safari Tour,” he said.
“The opening round was good. I gained more confidence during the second round, and it only got better in the third round. I was a lot more relaxed for the final round, because I was leading with a big margin. This is a sweet victory for me. I want to thank Tusker Malt Lager for putting this together,” said Chinhoi at the awards ceremony.
Chinhoi remains the only Zimbabwean to have won the prestigious tournament. — @brandon_malvin
