ZIFA Southern Region Division One side Talen Vision chairman Elton Sinyosi has confirmed the appointment of experienced coach Lizwe Sweswe to lead the club’s football academy.
Contrary to some reports, Sweswe will not be involved with the first team, which plays in Division One and is coached by Kudzayi Mhandire.
“We have appointed Lizwe Sweswe to head our academy. We believe his experience will be invaluable in helping us produce quality players. At present, he is in Tanzania with two other team members, learning how to enhance our academy from Azam,” said Sinyosi.
For this coming season, Talen Vision will temporarily relocate from Filabusi to Bulawayo as they await the completion of their home ground at the newly established Talen Vision International School.
In recent seasons, the Akululula Madoda Boys have played their matches at Filabusi Government Primary School.
Sweswe joins Talen Vision from Sheasham in the Central Region Division One league where he failed to guide the team back to the Premiership after demotion in 2023.
Under Sweswe’s guidance, Sheasham embarked on a project focusing on developing its junior structures, inviting young players aged 13-17 to join the team’s youth ranks.
In an interview with Zimpapers Sports Hub soon after his Sheasham departure, Sweswe indicated that he would be pursuing a role in junior football coaching before getting back to the dugout as head coach of a senior team.
With a coaching journey that includes stints at women’s side North Rovers, Tsholotsho FC, FC Platinum, and Bulawayo Chiefs, Sweswe has a proven track record.
Notably, he made history with Tsholotsho FC, guiding the team to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and becoming the first club from a rural area in independent Zimbabwe to achieve this feat.
As Sweswe looks to the future, he remains optimistic and eager to continue his coaching career, contributing to the development of Zimbabwean football. With his vast experience and passion he would be expected to produce some good young talent in the country.
