President of the Matabeleland Amateur Swimming Board (MASB) Eddie Cyprianos said it was always great to have swimmers who are good enough to match other countries’ standards, especially at top level.
“It is great that we have top swimmers in our country who can make it into top competitions like this one and we are proud to be sending a team over to South Africa,” said Cyprianos.
He, however, lamented the cost as parents have to foot the bill for everything for their children since they did not get any help from the provinces and the country.
But because of the love of the sport and the desire to see the growth of their children in their preferred sport, the parents could not really complain.
“It is tough financially to send our children to such competitions but we cannot complain since it is for the best of our children in the long run,” said Cyprianos.
Lindsay Tudarcole will coach the Zimbabwean team with Tracy Doorman going as the team manager.
The Bulawayo province will have four representatives James Isemonger, Luke van Breda, Matabeleland boys’ team captain Andresious Cyprianos and Mieke Koen, who is the Matabeleland girls vice captain.
