SWISS handball coach Rolf Haussener is expected in the country next week for the national Under-21 men’s team training camp running from October 21 to 24 at Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex.
Haussener is working with local coaches on the vision 2024 project by the Zimbabwe Handball Federation to build national teams that can compete and challenge for medals at various stages.
He is expected in the country on October 20, the same day the players are expected troop into camp. They will be staying at Belvedere Technical Teachers College and training at Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex.
“We are still working, particularly starting with the vision 2024 project, it’s still on course. This camp is going to be under the guidance of Rolf, he is coming,” said Chirowodza.
ZHF are starting a similar project for the women’s team and they are targeting the Under-18s.
Haussener will also work with the team.
“We are also starting a new project for the ladies that will run alongside the boys. We are going to have a selection on the 23rd of October at Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex and we are targeting Under-18 girls.
“He (Rolf) will be part of the selection team for the girls. It’s not like we are starting from zero, the process is already underway. But anyone who thinks they are good can avail themselves on the 23rd,” said Chirowodza.
The national association is also working on resuming the regional leagues as they return to competition.
