LOCAL small-scale farmers have been urged to increase synergies as a way of improving their productivity and market penetration.

Chairperson of the newly-established Makoni Small-scale Farmers Association, Mr Taurai Chiripamberi, said there was huge potential for growth if small players in the agriculture sector streamline their activities.

He said this would help them move towards commercialisation of their operations.

Mr Chiripamberi said synergies enhance efficiency and profitability.

“Farming is growing into a big business, and it is critical for local small-scale farmers to get into synergies in order to improve their activities.

“Through that, they exchange ideas and share experiences on enhancing productivity. Such joint ventures also bring out innovative ideas that lead to increased production,” said Mr Chiripamberi.

He said sustainability in small-scale farming can be achieved through increased collaborations among the players.
