NATIONAL Athletics Association of Zimbabwe president Tendayi Tagara has lauded the men’s 4x400m relay following their victory at the Maseru International Meet in Lesotho over the weekend.

The team, made up of Thandazani Ndhlovu, Leeford Zuze, Gerren Muwishi and Dennis Hove, won the race at the Setsoto Stadium with a time of 3 minutes 03.55 seconds ahead of Senegal, Lesotho and Eswatini.

Tagara said the meet in Lesotho was a good starting point ahead of their participation at the Lefika International Relays this weekend in Botswana.

Zimbabwe is targeting qualification to the World Relays slated for May 2 and 3 in Gaborone, Botswana.

“As an association, the 3:03.55 was good for us because they have somewhere to start from.

“We didn’t want them to run only once in Botswana.

“We want to make sure that while other countries are also pushing to qualify, we are also pushing to qualify,” said Tagara.

The team is expected back home on Monday.
