NATIONAL Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) president, Tendayi Tagara, was re-elected to the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Council at a meeting held in Durban, South Africa, on Saturday.
Tagara, who polled the highest number of votes, said he is delighted to be re-elected for another term, which he said he would use to work for the development of athletics in Zimbabwe and the continent.
“I am happy to be re-elected for another four-year term. I owe this victory to the NAAZ executive and the Zimbabwean athletics family,” said Tagara.
“People are seeing our results; we are providing high-quality coaches and officials to Africa. We are one of the few countries in Africa that had outstanding athletes in Oregon. So, I will keep on working for the development of athletics in Zimbabwe and in Africa so that we can be competitive on the global front,” he said.
Tagara was also at the forefront when NAAZ partnered with Baldmin Holdings.
Baldmin Holdings, who are into mining and medical supplies, pledged to pour in more than US$30 00 for three triangular athletics series across the country.
The partnership will also see Baldmin Holdings sponsoring the Junior Championship and the 10 000m series.
