TAILORS in Harare say they are getting brisk business as parents and students prepare for the opening of the first school term.
In a survey by H-Metro yesterday, most tailors in the Central Business District said parents have resorted to their services since they supply relatively cheaper uniforms.
“We just hear that there is a ‘January disease’, but for some of us selling and designing school uniforms, we can’t complain,” said Passmore Mupaikwa, one of the tailors.
Mupaikwa said he does not regret being a tailor since they are making a killing.
“It is our season for abundant grace since most parents and guardians are preparing to send their children back to school.
“So, we have to use this golden opportunity wisely to raise our standard of livings.
“It’s true that we get more profit during this season in Harare and we are happy,” he said.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Learnmore Marashauta, who told H-Metro that they were busy for the greater part of the festive season sewing uniforms.
“I failed to go for holidays in December because I was busy designing uniforms in preparation for the start of the new school term.
“I had many orders, which required me to work round the clock to ensure that we meet the demand.
“We had orders from several learning institutions in Zimbabwe like Mutendi High School, Pamushana High School and Regina Mundi High School, among others,” said Marashauta.
At Machipisa Shopping Centre in Highfield, tailors were busy, with most runners supplying uniforms outside the big factory which houses several tailors.
