Take sport seriously, cops urged

MEMBERS of the Zimbabwe Republic Police from different Criminal Investigation Departments in Harare on Saturday traded their investigation skills for the football pittch as they participated in the second edition of the LM Auctions CID football tournament.

The tournament, held at Mkushi Police Training Academy, comprised of CID sections from Harare Province.

CID Headquarters Rangers were crowned champions after crushing CID Homicide by four goals to nil.

After being crowned champions, CID HQ Rangers walked away with US$ 600 and a trophy, with the runners-up pocketing US$450.

Speaking on behalf of the guest of honour Officer Commanding Director CID,Commissioner Crispen Charumbira, Chief Supritended Austine Chikwababa said sport was one the key components of the organisation

“Sport is a key component in the organisation. As we take time of our duties, this football tournament is not just a tournament but itvis a platform for different sections to meet and mingle amd share ideas on our duties as police officers,” said Chief Sup Chikwababa

He urged members to be actively involved in sporting activities as it helps promote mental health and fitness.

“We want to urgent members to be actively involved in sports.

“As an organisation in line with governemnt thrust in promoting physical and mental being of our members we have a dedicated day for sports.

“I urge members to utilise Wednesday our sports day for sporting activities.

“I want it to make it known that an audit is carried out on the sporting activities,” he said.

He hailed the Lewis Muzhara the director of LM Auctions for availing sponsorship for the tournament.

“I would like to thank Mr Muzhara for availing monetary sponsorship to the tournament.

“I believe with such partnerships with the corporate world together with the people we serve together we can share ideas and help in the combating of crime,” said Chief Supritended Chikwababa.

Muzahara commited his support to the football tournament.

“As LM auctioneers, we remain committed to supporting initiatives that promote unity, positive engagement and community development.

Our sponsorship of this tournament reflects our belief in fostering strong partnerships and encouraging activities that reinforce discipline, excellence and collaboration,” he said.
