Take up technical subjects, pupils urged

Pupils have been urged to complement Government’s efforts to curb unemployment by taking non-conventional and practical subjects which unlock and create value in critical sectors of the economy.

In his keynote address during the Kwekwe District Career Guidance Session at Amaveni High School recently, Kwekwe Polytechnic vice principal Mr Chamunorwa Gora said pupils should take technical subjects and sporting activities seriously from an early stage so that they make an informed career decision.

“Government is playing its role through the review of vocational skills training programmes, strengthening of apprenticeship programmes in the new curriculum in an effort to orient and create a conducive environment for students to become future employers,” he said.

“Students should engage in non-conventional fields, taking advantage of their personal talents and abilities. In so doing, it is easier to link with the relevant intellectual, entrepreneur and technical interests which responds to different competences for individuals.”

Mr Gora said students should engage in self-employment initiatives, adding that the move would go a long way in complimenting Government efforts to curb unemployment.
