A 40-YEAR-OLD woman from Thekwane Village in Bulilima has fled from her homestead in fear of a “talking” suitcase that is reportedly tormenting her. The woman, identified as Ms Pauline Zelembu, reportedly left her parents’ homestead in a huff for Bulawayo, leaving the suitcase she allegedly stole in Botswana lying by the roadside.
In an interview, a relative, Mr Given Moyo, said Ms Zelembu, who travelled to Botswana last month, returned with a stolen suitcase which was now tormenting the family.
“Pauline travelled to Botswana last month and when she returned after two weeks she was in possession of a big red suitcase packed with clothes. She said she bought the clothes but we were very suspicious as we were aware that she was unable to secure a job during her two week stay.
“From that time strange things started happening in the home, which we found difficult to understand. Immediately after returning home with the suitcase she washed the clothes and hung them on the line but she later realised that the clothes had disappeared from the washing line and found them neatly packed in the suitcase,” said Mr Moyo.
He said the family started having sleepless nights as Ms Zelembu alleged that large stones were pounding her bedroom hut.
“From there we started having sleepless nights as Pauline would wake up in the middle of the night screaming and shouting. She alleged that large stones were pounding the roof of her hut and the suitcase which she kept in her bedroom was calling out her name,” said Mr Moyo.
“Pauline finally admitted to having stolen the suitcase and she fled from the village. The suitcase mysteriously followed her because after her departure it vanished from her bedroom hut where she had left it and was found by the roadside.”
Chief Mpini Ndiweni, under whose jurisdiction the area falls, confirmed receiving a report about a woman who had fled from the village after being terrorised by a suitcase.
“We have a case of a mysterious suitcase which has been tormenting one of our villagers. It has caused a stir within the village and as I speak the suitcase is by the roadside and no one has attempted to remove it. I have also received reports from people that the suitcase talks but we are yet to investigate that allegation,” said Chief Mpini.
“As the chief of the area I have advised her family to resolve the issue and ensure that the suitcase is returned to the rightful owners before more harm is done.”
