ZANU-PF National Chairman Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo has sent his condolences to the wife of the late former Cabinet Minister, Cde Edward Chindori Chininga who died in a car accident. Cde Chininga died on the spot on Wednesday night after his car failed to stop at the T-Junction of Raffingora and Mvurwi Roads and rammed into a tree.
In a statement yesterday, Ambassador Khaya Moyo said news of the death of Cde Chininga came as a shock.
“The untimely demise of your beloved husband the late Cde Chininga in a tragic car accident on Wednesday night has not only devastated you and the family but shocked all of us who knew him.
“Your loss is our loss as well. We grieve and mourn with you. You have lost a dependable companion, Zanu-PF has lost a tested cadre and Zimbabwe has been robbed of a faithful servant,” said Ambassador Khaya Moyo.
He said Cde Chininga served with distinction both the party and nation.
“He was a principled man, very courageous in his beliefs, hardworking, focused, honest, and diligent and a man of destiny. He loved his family, his party Zanu-PF and his country.
“I was privileged to work closely with him as my Deputy in the then Ministry of Mines, Environment and Tourism. He was a performer par excellence hence his later elevation to a full Minister,” said Ambassador Khaya Moyo.
“In wishing you strength and staying power may his soul anchor and rest in eternal peace.”
Cde Chininga, who was chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy, served as the Minister of Mines between 2000 and 2004.
Before that he had been the Deputy Minister of Mines, Environment and Tourism from 1995 to 2000.
Cde Chininga was also chairman of the Stakeholders Committee of the Parliamentary Select Committee on the New Constitution.
