Youthful songstress Thamsanqa Moyo popularly known as Tammy staged an explosive concert dubbed “Colourful Original” at Alliance Francaise over the weekend.The show was a high-energy performance although the musician maintained her “feel good” element while keeping the songs inspirational.
The style can be likened to South African diva Lira’s or our own Adiona Maboreke although Tammy had more energy.
Throughout the 90-minute performance she sang sensational promising hits like “Sango Rinopa Waneta” and “New Day” to a full house.
Popular radio personalities; Dhelani Makhalima, Itayi “Ayati” Takaendesa, Richard Kahola, and representatives from the corporate worldgave her a well deserved stamp of approval.
Star FM deejay Napster who was also the MC described her music as the sound of the future.
“We all listen to the radio and you can all confirm this is good music. All those present today should brace themselves because this is the future in music and we are all quite lucky to be witnessing it,” he said.
The weekend concert marks the start of her nationwide tours for which she has partnered with equally talented band Jam.
Speaking to The Herald after her show Tammy said she felt it was important to grow her brand locally before crossing borders. She added that just like super star Oliver Mtukudzi, she wanted to have a strong fan base in the country.
“I’m excited about this and today’s response was encouraging. I am prepared now more than ever to join the big league in the industry. Fans should expect to see me all over because I want to lay a solid foundation locally before exploring foreign countries with my music,” she said.
Commenting on her style of music she said she was not going to let labels limiting her.
“My music cannot really be defined because it fusses a bit of everything; pop, reggae, rock you name it. This is because I want to be able to explore different avenues in music. I want to be relevant in the industry,” she said.
Tammy is the current Child Line ambassador and has shared the stage with music greats among them Mtukudzi and United States R’n’B icon Joe Thomas.
