Tanga Wekwa Sando has roped in two soulful divas – Rute Mbangwa and Diana Samkange ahead of his much-anticipated “Township Music Explosion” concert scheduled for tonight at Misty’s located at Newlands Shopping Centre.
This would be one of his major shows at the joint which is set to mark the Africa Day celebrations.
Tanga has worked with the duo before and their return to stage alongside the “Wake” singer will not only add colour but also excitement among his fans. Both Diana and Rute are talented musicians in their own right with five albums between them. The show promises to be a thrilling one since they were featured on some of Tanga’s original compositions.
Tanga is basking in the success of his new album titled “Katsindi” featuring a collaborative single called “Love Aziko” with one of the pioneering urban grooves outfits – Extra Large.
Extra Large, who provide vocals on “Love Aziko”, did well as for the first time they sang not just from the top of their voices but according to the notes. For once, Tanga taught the young generation how to make music changing from low to high notes.
“Love Aziko” simply put means the love is no more. When two people stop seeing each other, stop calling each other or stop everything they used to do one of them is bound to conclude that love no longer exists.
“Katsindi” is a superb love track which is already making waves on most radio stations across Zimbabwe. It’s a feel-good track with an addictive chorus.
Production-wise, the album is groovy just the way township music fans like it. By the way you can expect surprises from an artiste whose versatility is as varied as Tanga, who draws influences from funk, afro-jazz, rock, soul and what have you.
Like one critic said: “Tanga’s music exudes such power and beauty that invokes in Zimbabweans a sense of pride and belonging.”
Tanga has proved to all and sundry that he was still at the top of his game with an album that feels a lot like the Tanga Wekwa Sando of the old like “Wake”, “Paidamoyo”, “Manetwork”, “Buhera” and “Nyenyedzi”.
Those who are going to turn up at Misty’s are unlikely to be disappointed as the granddad of township music takes to the stage.
It is always a joy to watch Tanga and Chibhodhoro do their thing on stage.
The two have a formidable combination that not only excites but also moves the crowd.
