Tanzania housemate wins BBA ultimate prize

Zimbabwe’s JJ and Butterphly last night swallowed a bitter pill after Tanzania’s Idris was announced the Big Brother Africa (BBA) Hotshot and walked away $300,000 richer. Following an exhausting 63 days in the house, Idris shrugged off competition from finalists, Tayo (Nigeria), Sipe (Malawi) Nhlanhla (South Africa), Macky2 (Zambia), Mam’Bea (Ghana) and the two Zimbabwean housemates during the last week of the show.

“I’m exhausted, it’s been a long run! I’ve a lot of love for everyone who voted for me,” said an ecstatic Idris holding a gigantic bottle of champagne.

The suspense building up to the final announcement of the ultimate Hotshot brought Tayo to tears as he hoped to pay his tithes and bride price, had he won the BBA prize money.

Fellow housemates had predicted Idris’ win although Tayo seemed to be a strong contender throughout the game. South Africa’s Nhlanhla said: “My only threat in the game was Idris and I used to say it each time I nominated him in the diary room.”

An unfazed Butterphly said she was grateful to have been part of the BBA experience.

“I’m excited with the person that I’ve become and can’t wait to get on with life. My experience in the house was awesome and I’m glad BBA brought out the old me because I’m naturally a shy person,” she said.

A disappointed JJ who clearly expected to win also thanked Big Brother for giving him an opportunity to expose his talent to Africa.

Unlike other housemates who walked out empty-handed, especially after Big Brother had advised them not to pack things which did not belong to them, Butterphly left with a special gift from the Kokomaster – D’Banj. During their last dinner on Saturday, the Nigerian performed for them and hid Beats by Dre headphones in Butterphly’s locker.

The Zimbabwean housemates are expected back home on Wednesday.
