Tapela to seek re-election

revelations that former Highlanders players have made a resolution to back Emmet Ndlovu for the same post.
Ndlovu is the former team medic who has been assigned to provide services to the national team.
The imposing former Fatima High School teacher and now How Mine Primary School headmaster, Tapela announced on Tuesday during a Press conference to unveil the new Highlanders technical team that he was seeking re-election.
“Yes, why not, I am standing. The decisions which I make are collective executive decisions not Tapela’s like what some might want to believe. It’s only that abanye are just after destroying individuals,” said Tapela when asked whether or not he was seeking re-election.
Tapela by virtue of holding the most powerful post had to bear the brunt of criticism from fans whenever the team was playing badly.
Ndlovu is yet to announce whether or not he accepts the request by Former Highlanders Players Association (Fohipa) to contest the post.
“We met as former players and resolved that Ndlovu should contest the secretary’s post,” said the ex-players’ secretary and spokesman, Netsai “Super” Moyo.
He said during the meeting former players agreed not to rush things but be calculative in their move, which has always been for a better Highlanders and empowered former players.
“Jerry Banda who we had earlier on earmarked for the post is an accountant by profession and he stands a chance of becoming the club treasurer in 2013,” said Moyo.
The position of Highlanders vice chairman, held by Sikhanyiso Moyo and treasurer, held by Odiel Nkomo, will become vacant at the end of January 2013 in line with the club’s continuity policy.
Moyo said they have since realised that their biggest mistake was to remain on the sidelines instead of playing an active role when it comes to the club’s affairs. “All along we have been content with being players and nothing else and as such many of us have not bothered to be members of the club as we never dreamt of becoming administrators,” he said.
Tapela becomes the fourth member to publicly declare that he will contest next year’s elections. The others are incumbent chairman Themba Ndlela, Ndlovu, Jabulani Mangwana Tshuma and former club marshal Dingani Sibanda.
Tshuma and Sibanda are challenging committee member Wisdom Mabhena who is yet to state his position.
Losing candidate in the 2009 elections and businessman Mandla Moyo is likely to challenge Ndlela for the chairmanship although he too is yet to formally state his position, preferring to be diplomatic by saying he is consulting various stakeholders.
