MOSES Tarakinyu maintained his dominance in the Tanganda Half Marathon as the Black Rhinos Athletics Club’s runner clinched his third successive race here over the weekend.
Tarakinyu won the men’s 21km race, crossing the line in one hour, two minutes and 11 seconds.
He finished ahead of Olympics-bound Isaac Mpofu, who finished in third position.
For his efforts, he qualified to represent the nation at this year’s World Half-Marathon race slated for later this year.
He said:
“This is a huge achievement for me personally and shows that my career is moving in the right direction.
“You cannot win back-to-back titles without hard work and commitment, so I want to thank my club and my coach who believed in me and helped me achieve all my goals and dreams.”
On qualifying for the World Half Marathon, he said:
“It is a huge honour for me to represent the nation at such a huge event, where I will battle it out against some of the top runners in the world.
“I am looking forward to raising my country’s flag high.”
Ethel Pangiso broke Olivia Chitate’s hold in the female 21km race after finishing first this year.
Chitate had won the previous three races but failed to get a podium finish this time.
Munyaradzi Zizhou won the men’s 10km race ahead of Golden Mhonderwa, who finished second, while Caroline Mhandu won the female’s race ahead of Melody Kaseke.
This year’s edition of the Tanganda Half Marathon was over-subscribed with athletes coming from other countries such as Mozambique and Kenya.
