ZIMBABWE amateur golfer, Tariro November won the 2023 Mashonaland West Golf Union (Mawegu) Amateur Tournament which was held at Kadoma Golf Club over the weekend.

The in-form November finished with a gross total of 228 points from three rounds to win his second tournament of the year after he was crowned champion of last month’s Munhumutapa Strokeplay Championship in the capital.
November looked poised for victory from the start of the tournament after carding a score of 73 in the first round and 75 in the second to end the first day when 36 holes were played, with a good nine shot lead.
In the third and final round when 54 holes were completed, November carded a round score of 80 to take home the title, edging out 21 other up and coming golfers. In second place was Innocent Mukumba who finished with round scores of 80, 77 and 76 for a gross total of 233 points and was tied with Kelvin Muchenje who had round scores of 80, 79 and 74 for a similar total.
In fourth place was last year’s Elephant Hills Golf Open champion, Clive Muchenje who finished with a gross total of 237 points after carding round scores of 82, 78 and 77 in his three rounds.
The Mawegu championship was the third event on the Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) calendar. The others were the Dugmore and Fellowship Challenge which was held at Bulawayo Golf Club in January and was graced by the R and A Development Officer for Africa, Eden Thompson and the Munhumutapa Strokeplay Championship which was held in Harare in February.
The next event is the Matabeleland Amateur which will be played at Bulawayo Country Club on April 1 and 2. — @brandon_malvin
