Gumbo was shown the door alongside his assistant, Brighton Muchambo while club chairman Patrick Chikwanda is also reportedly on his way out.
The former Shu-Shine midfielder, who joined the side from Southern Region Division One outfit, FC Windermere and guided them into the Premiership last year, becomes the fourth coach to be axed this season.
Thulani Sibanda was the first coach to be relieved of his duties at Quelaton and Rahman Gumbo’s flirtation with FC Platinum ended last week although the club executive is yet to confirm his dismissal.
Other coaches who left their respective clubs are Moses Chunga who dumped police outfit Black Mambas to join Gunners and Blue Rangers coach Misheck Chidzambwa who quit in a huff hours before the club’s 6-0 mauling by Dynamos.
Gumbo’s tenure ended after winning just three games, drawing one and losing 10 matches and the final straw was when Hardbody lost 2-4 to Monomotapa after the team had taken a two-nil lead at half-time before they crumbled in the last seven minutes of the match.
Club spokesperson Wellington Ngulube confirmed Gumbo’s departure and the appointment of Usman Matimati as the club’s interim chairman.
“We have noted as the club that indiscipline has been one of the reasons that the club has performed dismally and we have made changes to strengthen the team so that we can win the remainder of our games.
“We appreciate what Tavaka Gumbo did by guiding the team to gain promotion and assembling a team for the Premiership at short notice but the reality is results have not been coming and we have decided to relieve him of his duties.
“On the same note the club would also like to unveil Usman Matimati as the acting chairman since our chairman, Patrick Chikwanda is a busy man and has not been with the team recently,” Ngulube said.
Ngulube added that a new coach for the club would be unveiled tomorrow at another Press conference but speculation was rife that former Chapungu coach, Innocent Chogugudza would take over from the dreadlocked mentor.
Both Gumbo and Chikwanda professed ignorance at the latest developments.
“I am not aware of that and I am only hearing it from you,” was all Gumbo could say before hanging up.
“I am still the chairman and nothing has changed. There cannot be an acting chairman when the chairman is there. Let me talk to (Takesure) Sibanda and I will come back to you,” said Chikwanda whose absence was conspicuous at the Press briefing.
